This makes locating Asian hornets simple, efficient, and future-oriented.

The VespaTracker Ecosystem 

1. The VESPA-NANO Tags - Season 2026


The VESPA-NANO Tag is a very lightweight small Tag that is attached to a hornet to locate the nest.
The Tag was deliberately developed for quick and targeted deployment, tailored to your practical needs and the conditions in the field.
The Tag is for single use, and they are sold in packs of 10 on one sheet.


One rechargeable sheet with 10 VESPA-NANO Tags:

  • Made from a flexible rechargeable film
  • Leaf dimensions: L:17 x W:7.8 x D: 0.18 cm
  • 10 VESPA-NANO Tags, each with a unique ID code
  • All transmitters are charged at the same time in 2 hours with the fast charger
  • Each Tag is fully cut out except for 2 cutting points
  • Unique 'Cut & Ready' concept:
    After charging, you only need to cut the Tag loose.
    The battery activates automatically and the connection to the App is established immediately - without extra actions
  • Use only a ceramic scissors to prevent short circuits
  • The other Tags remain usable and rechargeable for years


Technical details of the VESPA-NANO Tag:

  • No hard PCB, but a flexible label 
  • Tag dimensions: L:44.9 x W:4.1 x D:2.7 mm
  • Weight of 125 mg, portable by the early workers
  • Signal range of ~350 meters with an Android smartphone,
    up to ~500 meters in combination with the Range-PRO (both in ideal conditions)
  • An innovative Solid State battery, no cell battery
  • minimum charging time is 2 hours
  • After battery activation up to ~4 hour lifespan 
  • For single use
  • Can be attached in various ways:
    with the hook, glue or thread/rubber band

 
Do you have an Apple smartphone?

  • With an Android smartphone, a signal range of 350 meters can be achieved (in ideal conditions)
  • With an Apple smartphone the result will be more limited een beperkter resultaat to be obtained due to the Bluetooth restrictions imposed by Apple.
  • For the best results, it is advisable to use an Android smartphone.
    Or you can use the Apple smartphone in combination with the RANGE-PRO (more details below).

2. The Applicator

 


Securely attach the VespaNano Tag safely, controlled and at your pace to a captured hornet with the applicator.

  • Supports precise hook attachment with minimal handling.
  • Easy to use, both for beginners and experienced users.
  • Ideal for efficient use.



The choice of a VespaTracker Applicator depends on your experience and preference:

The shape and dimensions of the VESPA-NANO allow the Tag to be attached in various ways: with a hook, glue, or thread/rubber band. The choice of attachment method will depend in practice on the size of the captured hornet and the experience and preference of the user. You are responsible for safe and correct use.

The VespaTracker Applicator is optimised for attachment using its hook.

Are you already using an applicator or do you have your own method? Then you can often continue to use it. The VespaTracker Applicator is therefore not mandatory.


3. The NANO charger
 


The fast charger is required for safely and quickly charging the sheet with the VESPA-NANO Tags.

  • Charges the entire sheet and thus all Tags at once which saves time in the field
  • Fully charged sheet in 2 hours
  • Via USB-C cable (not included)
  • One charger is sufficient, even when you purchase multiple sheets.

4. The RANGE-PRO


Currently only compatible with Android


The RANGE-PRO extends the reception range of the VESPA-NANO signal from about 350 meters with just the smartphone to ±500 meters (tested with an Android smartphone in ideal conditions)

By connecting your smartphone to the RANGE-PRO, a powerful system is created that combines sensors, GPS, compass, and motion detection. This results in a accurate and visual representation of signal strength and direction, making tracking more intuitive and efficient.

  • Long range with proprietary protocol
  • Adjustable sensitivity scale for close detection (anti-overmodulation)

  • Firmware upgradable via the App, making it always compatible with future Tag generations

The choice of a VespaTracker RANGE-PRO depends on your needs and usage:

  • For quiet or recreational use the Tags combined with the Hunting Module on your smartphone are sufficient. This module will be available in the first week of May 2026 in the free HornetSpotter app (Android & Apple).
  • If you wish to find multiple nests more quickly and accurately in a day, then the RANGE-PRO offers a clear added value.

The promised performance and range extension are only guaranteed when using the VESPA-NANO in combination with the VespaTracker RANGE-PRO.

5. The GRID-PRO


 


The GRID-PRO makes it possible to monitor an entire area at once. By setting up a perimeter, the system detects automatically and in real time any VESPA-NANO equipped wasp that enters the area.

Ideal for zones where multiple nests are suspected, allowing interventions to be more efficient and targeted. Also perfect for protecting fruit cultivation, agricultural, and viticultural areas.

  • Equipped with GPS and NB-IoT for connectivity and location determination
  • Battery life of up to 5 years
  • Robust and designed for long-term use in outdoor conditions

The VespaTracker products are sustainable, one-time purchase tools, designed for long-term use and continuously evolving through software updates.

The VESPA-NANO is a targeted exception and represents technology with minimal impact:

  • miniature, ultra-compact and 'just enough essential parts'
  • evolving in the future towards (where possible) biodegradable materials
  • battery life of 5–6 hours, sufficient for quick detection and, if possible, removal of the Tags
